1.        Purpose

The Yale-NUS Chen Chong Swee Scholarship is a merit-based award that annually supports one graduating student or alumnus/alumna of any nationality who is admitted into a Master of Arts or Master of Fine Arts, in Singapore or overseas, in the area of visual art, art history, and/or Southeast Asian / Asian Art.

2.        Application Procedure

Applications and supporting documents should be submitted online via Symplicity by 23:59 Singapore time on the application closing date.

3.        Eligibility

This scholarship is a merit-based award open to any nationality. Applications are invited from candidates who meet the following conditions:

  • A graduating student or an alumnus/alumna of Yale-NUS College (no upper age limit);
  • Applying for and/or admitted into a Master of Arts or Master of Fine Arts in the area of visual art, art history, Southeast Asian / Asian Art, in Singapore or abroad, for the next academic year. (Candidates should notify the CIPE administrator as soon as they receive a decision on their applications.); and
  • Intention to contribute back to Yale-NUS College.


4.        Value of Scholarship

The award will cover tuition fees, up to two years of study, and will be awarded only should there be a suitable candidate, in a specialization that emulates the legacy of Mr Chen Chong Swee.  Applicants should note that only partial cost of attendance is covered through this scholarship.  Applicants are responsible for determining procedures and timelines for applying for alternate and additional funding options.

5.        Timeline

  • Application Announcement: late January
  • Application Closing Date: late February or early March
  • Faculty Selection Committee Deliberations: mid-March – late March
  • Academic Committee approval: late March – early April
  • Announcement of Chen Chong Swee Scholarship award: early April
